Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 1, 2025

Waymarked (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates waymarked.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our service to create custom travel maps.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Email address: Collected through Stripe during checkout to send your receipt and keepsake link.
  • Photos: The images you upload to create your map, including any embedded metadata.
  • Location names: The names you assign to your photo locations.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Photo metadata (EXIF data): We extract GPS coordinates and timestamps from your photos to place markers on your map. This processing occurs in your browser before upload.
  • Usage data: We may collect anonymized analytics about how you interact with our service to improve the user experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create your custom map and photo gallery
  • Process your payment and send your receipt
  • Deliver your keepsake link via email
  • Host your photo gallery at a unique URL
  • Provide customer support if you contact us
  • Improve and maintain our service

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate Waymarked:

4. Data Retention

  • Before payment: Photos are stored temporarily and automatically deleted within 48 hours if no purchase is made.
  • After payment: Your photos, map, and gallery are stored indefinitely to support your keepsake link. You may request deletion at any time.
  • Email address: Retained for order records and customer support purposes.

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

  • All data is transmitted over HTTPS encryption
  • Photos are stored in secure cloud infrastructure
  • Gallery URLs use unguessable identifiers for privacy through obscurity
  • We do not create user accounts, reducing the risk of credential theft
  • Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe

While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You share photos at your own discretion.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your photos, gallery, and associated data
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate information

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@waymarked.com. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Cookies and Tracking

We use essential cookies required for the service to function (e.g., maintaining session state during the map creation process). We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers.

8. Children's Privacy

Waymarked is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. Our service providers maintain appropriate safeguards to protect your data in compliance with applicable laws.
